Open Treatments Foundation

Culture

OpenTreatments Connect has a very unique culture that is built to fit the core tenets of the product.

Core Values (unless you know better)

Everyone working with or at OpenTreatments Foundation exhibits these core values. The values guide our day-to-day decisions, determine the output of our organization and directly impact our ability to reach our mission.

Not all organizations are a good fit for everyone. OpenTreatments is no exception. If you are interested in working with or at OpenTreatments Foundation, then read core values and ask yourself how much you would hate working with someone who exhibited the majority of the values.

SFTP - Solve For The Patients

Focus relentlessly on patient needs and obsess over safety and privacy. Be inclusive and value everyone’s opinion equally, but act on behalf of patients.

Radical Openness

Openness is about sharing, but also about receiving. We will proactively share everything we create to benefit the community. We will also be open to receiving information that will adapt us and our organization to better reach our mission.

Be Bold and Creative

We are solving one of the most challenging problems facing humanity. Create and communicate bold directions that inspire results. Dare to be different, question the status quo, look around corners, take risks and continually innovate.

Extreme Owners

We favor autonomy and take ownership. We take full responsibility and never say “that’s not my job”. We focus on building long-term value while continuously delivering results in the short-term.

Working Style

OpenTreatments is the stewards of a social infrastructure built for the people and by the people. We practice radical transparency where everything is public-by-default unless there is a legal or regulatory reason to keep it private. Our working style is intentionally designed to minimize overhead and maximize efficiency while trading off our ability to scale the organization. We will never have hundreds or thousands of employees, and that is okay.

TBD - Working Style is not fully documented yet.

Processes

Processes are spun up in a time-limited fashion to facilitate coordination among humans. Our processes follow these tenets:

  • Intentional: Every process must serve a clear purpose. If the purpose isn’t clear or the process is no longer fulfilling the intended purpose, we will update or kill the process.
  • Minimal: We will identify the minimal necessary structure (people, meetings, information etc) to meet the purpose. Minimal does not necessarily mean small or barebones.
  • Asynchronous: We aspire to develop asynchronous processes that can be completed without realtime conversations or meetings. In exceptional situations, we may break this tenet to ensure effectiveness.
  • Effective: Processes must be effective in meeting their purpose. There is no universal measure of effectiveness except for the overall effectiveness of the organization (ie. meeting goals, roadmap, less bugs etc).
